Choosing your preferred builder

January 4, 2016

The building process can be a personal decision especially when doing major works on your home. You want a builder that can deliver the result you want, built on time and achieves value for money.

Here are our tips for choosing the right builder for you:

  1. Make sure the builder is licensed. You can go to the QBCC website to check their license class and make sure their license class meets the scope of works you are looking to engage them in.

  2. Location. Check the builder will service your area (this may save you time!).

  3. Check previous work. You can do this by looking at pictures of their previous work either by their website or social media such as Facebook, Instagram etc. Also ask for testimonials from previous clients describing the builder's work.

  4. Good Communication. Communication between the builder and the client is very important. A good builder is always in contact with the client answering any question or providing good advice to ensure the needs of the client are met.

  5. Choose a specialist.  Choose a builder that has the specialist knowledge and experience in the type of work and can deliver the results you want.

  6. Price.  Check the detailed description for items included and/or excluded in the price.

  7. The Contract. When choosing your preferred builder it is important to have a written contract.  It is a legal requirement to have a written contract for works above $3,300.00.  Specify in detail the final result you want in the contract so as to prevent any misunderstanding.
